Although it’s not possible to burn fat in specific areas, for example only ‘lose belly fat’ it is possible to overall lose weight through effective exercise. Where our body stores fat is partly down to genetics (thanks Mum & Dad!) and also due to environmental factors, like your diet and activity day to day.
Lots of people ask how to burn fat quickly and would usually think about getting started at the gym, however at REBEL we’ve come up with 3 different types of home workouts that you can do from the comfort of your own living room:
HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training, don’t be intimidated by the abbreviation! A HIIT workout is typically structured in a way that you will be working at a high intensity for a short period of time e.g. push-ups for 30 seconds and then followed by a period of rest which could also be 30 seconds. This will repeat throughout the workout so that your heart rate is constantly increasing during periods of high intensity and then give the chance to rest. This is a very effective way to burn calories as it can be fun due to different variations and easier to follow for some people vs. going for a 30min run. If you’re looking to try out a HIIT workout you can check out this Full Body Beginner Workout from Tinoy.
Dance workouts are one of our favourite ways to move and sweat here at REBEL. They can be the best way to workout without feeling like you’re actually working out. As you’re typically moving your entire body for a full 20-30mins to the beat this is a great way to burn calories whilst also toning up muscles with a smile on your face. Check out of one our most popular dance workouts, HIIT THE BEAT with Hans Braga here.
The more muscle you have in your body the more energy your body will be consuming which will help you to lose fat if you’re following a healthy balanced diet. Compound movements, which use multiple muscle groups such as the Squat (which builds you back, core and leg muscles) can be extremely effective at building muscle. There are plenty of bodyweight muscle toning and building workouts which require no equipment such as this Strength & Cardio circuit from Coach Tinoy Borromeo. If you’re more experienced then it can also be beneficial to add more resistance to your training either with dumbbells or resistance bands to increase the intensity of a workout. If you want to check out a fun dumbbell workout that will help you build muscle check out infamous celebrity trainer Arnold Aninion’s Dumbbell Session here.
Finally, there are many factors to burning fat, exercise can be an important one for many people. At REBEL it’s our mission to help people on their journey towards a sustainable healthy lifestyle. To start with, half the battle is just getting started so try out some different workouts to see what works best for you!
